The Coastal Kids Project

A Journey of Exploration!

On a very exciting day of September 5th, William Carey Academy’s class five students, began an amazing adventure to a new world of learning and analytical thinking centered around the concern of the climate change and its  impact on the coastal areas. The event took place at the High School Computer Lab at 9:45 a.m. Associates from Young Power in Social Action, The Coastal Kids Project, Displacement Solutions, Sorrento Primary School in Australia, and WCA leaders were present for this outstanding occasion.

The event commenced with a presentation on explaining the basic conception of the climate change and its effects on coastal areas and Bangladesh. This presentation was given by Mr. Mahiuddin Hafiz, a member of the Young Power in Social Action. Anan, a Class 5 student said, “The black smoke from the vehicles around us gets trapped in the layers of gases that are protecting the earth and it causes extra humidity”. Fifth Grade students earnestly took notes on the presentation and participated in asking questions.

Following the presentation, the students had the opportunity to have a live Skype conference with the students from Sorrento Primary School in Australia. The Skype conversation was centered on the issue of climate change and what interactions can the youth of today take to lead their countries out from the great menace of disasters. Rachel from Class 5 said she thought, “This conversation was very useful, fun and educational”.

The Students left the conference at 11:15 with their hearts full of hopes and dreams on bringing a change on the future of their country and the world. Forthcoming cooperation between William Carey and Sorrento Primary School in Australia are promised to fill with brilliant ideas and discoveries!
